I can't see the contact details of the advertiser
You have to be logged on as a user to see the contact details of the advertisers. In order to log on as a user you need to register first by clicking on the "Sign Up" tab. If you still don't see the contact details - even after you logged on as a user, then the Advertiser chose to only be contacted via the contact form that says "contact advertiser" and not via phone. The email address of the advertiser is not disclosed on the site.
When do I contact Rentproperty.co.za
In all circumstances you should contact the Advertiser if you are looking for a property to rent. We do not engage in the relationship between landlord and tenant. You should contact us only if the site has a technical error (for example you are trying to add a listing and don't find a suburb to place the listing). If you see content that you feel is incorrect or objectionable, then click on the "Report as unacceptable" link and insert your reason.
How do I list my property for rent?
Click on the tab at the top of the home page where it says 'ADD RENTAL'. Enter the suburb name where the property you'd like to let is located, e.g. Durbanville. Click on search. Select an area that accurately specifies the location of your property. Follow the steps as prompted to list your property. Note that you must either upload a photo of your property or at least upload the default photo we supply in order for your listing to be live, i.e. visible to potential customers.
How do I edit my listing?
Click on the tab at the top of the home page where it says 'MY DETAILS'. On the new page that has opened, click on 'GET MY LISTINGS' in the left margin. All the properties you have listed will appear. Click on 'MORE DETAIL' to enter the listing you need to edit. As you change info the website will automatically save your new info.
How do I bump up my listing to the top of the list?
Click on the tab at the top of the home page where it says 'MY DETAILS'. On the new page that has opened, click on 'GET MY LISTINGS' in the left margin. All the properties you have listed will appear. If the 'NUMBER OF DAYS SINCE BUMPUP' exceeds 'NUMBER OF DAYS REQUIRED BETWEEN BUMPUPS', you may click on the orange 'BUMPUP' button to bump up your listing.
What is bump up?
To prevent properties that have been let to remain visible to tenants on
the site, we've included bump up whereby you can choose to relist your
property should you still need to rent it out.
What is the default picture ?
This is the picture that will be presented to customers when they view properties. When they want to look at your property specifically more of the pictures you loaded will be displayed.
How do I delete a listing so that I won't be contacted by potential tenants?
When you edit your listing there will be a 'Delete' button that will remove it off the database.
Why does Rentproperty want to know the square meters of my property?
We calculate average asking rent per square meter in the graphs and reports that you will see on the site. The average rent per square meter gives landlords, and investors an idea of how attractive investment in that area may be if they compare it to the sales price of apartments and houses.
How do I register as a user?
Click on the tab at the top of the home page where it says 'SIGNUP'. Complete the page and press 'SUBMIT'. A public user is someone who has between one and five properties they manage. A corporate user is a business who lets property frequently.
I am a corporate user, how do I use the bulk upload interface to list many properties at once?
You must be logged in. Click on the tab at the top of the home page where it says 'INTERFACE'. Download the CSV file and save as a template for future use. Once the CSV file has opened in excel, you'll notice that row 1, column A to K has either auto or req written in it. Column A is auto i.e. automatic and must not be completed by yourself. The program will do the automatically. Columns B to K where req i.e. required is written, must be completed by you as this is information required by the program to ensure a successful bulk upload.
- Username is the username you use to log on to the site.
- Listingtype will at this stage always be rentals.
- Rentvalue is the amount payable by the tenants each day, week, month or year while renting the property.
- Propertytype help you identify the property as either a studio, 1 bed flat, 2 bed flat, 1 bed house, 2 bed house, 3 bed house, 4 plus bed house. Once of these must be chosen.
- Available from is the date from which new tenants may occupy the property.
- Perperiod could be day, week, month or year.
- Shortdesc allows you 30 characters whereby you can easily identify the property.
- Area_id is the numeric identification allocated to all areas within the country. To establish the area id, you must download on the area id's to an excel spreadsheet. You'll find the button to do this download in the left margin after you've clicked on 'INTERFACE'.
- Sqmeter refers to the size in square meters of your property.
Once you have entered all the properties you required, close the spreadsheet. You'll be asked whether you want to save the changes made to 'your file name.csv'. Click 'YES'. The following message will then appear: 'your file name.csv may contain features that are not compatible with CSV (Comma delimited). Do you want to keep the workbook in this format?' You'll be given 3 options: yes, no and help. Click on yes. On the same page where you downloaded the CSV file you'll see 'UPLOAD' in the left margin. Click on it, make sure it is your username in the field, enter your password and click on browse to find the CSV file you just saved. Click on 'SUBMIT'. You'll see your upload results together with any listings that require photographs.
To upload the photographs, click on browse and find the photograph you'd like to show with this listing. Once you've added photo's to all the listings you required, click on 'UPLOAD FILES'. All your listings should be under 'MY DETAILS' 'GET MY LISTINGS' for you to view.
Does Rentproperty provide my contact details to 3rd parties for commercial purposes.
Under no circumstances whatsoever.
How is the rent average calculated?
Listings of status "Published" , not rejected by Admin and not withdrawn by advertisers are taken into account. The system calculates the average by dividing the annual rent with the square meter of the covered built-up area of the property. For properties of which no square meter is provided the system assume a default standard square meter figure according to a table for that property type. The average is then recalculated for the statistical matrix so users can drill up or down per filter or geographic area and still get consistent average results.
Does Rentproperty engage into managing properties
We do not.
How do I search for properties to rent when I arrive on the Home Page
You can perform searches in 1 of 2 ways: First by entering a suburb in the search box. The system will look for that word against all the suburbs in South Africa and present all the towns/cities that it found it in. If you select a suburb and Submit it will show you all the rental information for that suburb. Thereafter you can drill-down further if needed by clicking on the property type in the top left corner (for instance if you only want to see only 2 bedroom flats). Thereafter you can click the small blue "BACK" button to go back to the previous level and select a different property type or use the filters (for example you only want to see what was added in the last 24 hours).
The second way to search is to click on the Province URL at the bottom of the screen, then the second level cities/towns will be displayed with the number of properties displayed in brackets. Click on the city/town of your choice and the suburbs underlying it with its respective number of listings will be shown. You can drill-up and down and use the filters to see exactly the rental properties you are after.
How do I create Alerts
This is a powerful tool so the system sends you email the moment a property is listed that match your exact requirements. Users can save searches and be alerted by email in the event that properties matching their search criteria are becoming available for rent. For instance you want to be alerted when 2 bedroom flats below R4,000 pm become available in central Cape Town. These alerts can be changed or deactivated at any time. This alert system is also available to estate agents that wish to receive notification that a prospective tenant has registered for certain areas. To create the alert, click on "save Search" after you performed any search matching your requirements. Click on the link in the left most column on the Home Page that says "Searches and Email Alerts". On the next screen you can edit your alert settings.
I've signed up, but I haven't received the activation email so that I am able to log in successfully
Unfortunately some email servers have very strict settings which control the emails you may receive. We've found that the rentproperty.co.za activation email can be diverted to the spam or junk mail box. We suggest you check there and if you still haven't received the email, please send us an email so
that we can activate your account manually.
I am interested in renting one of your properties
www.rentproperty.co.za is only a platform for landlord and letting agents to advertise their properties - we have no direct contact with either party.
The ads on the site are kept up to date so it's well worth your while to register. To register click on 'signup' and complete the form. Once you are logged on you'll be able to view the advertisers' contact details.
How do I contact advertisers?
Once you are logged in on our site, you'll see the contact the advertiser button after you've clicked on 'more detail' for the listing you're interested in. If the advertiser chose so, then you'll see his or her contact number. Otherwise you'll be able to send the advertiser an email through the site by completing the form. Then it's up to the advertiser to contact you.
I sent an email to the advertiser, but never received a response
This is very unfortunate, but as we only provide advertising space for landlords and letting agents we have no control over their actions. It is up to advertisers to respond to your emails.
